Glass Freezer Container
Angel Biscuits & Homemade Orange Conserve Angel Biscuits Yield: 15 1 tablespoon yeast 2 cups unbleached wheat flour 2 teaspoons sugar 1 teaspoon baking powder pinch of salt 3 tablespoons cold butter 2/3 cup buttermilk Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup water. Put flour, sugar, baking powder & salt in a bowl. Use pastry blender or two knives to work in butter until mixture is size of small peas. Add the dissolved yeast & the buttermilk. Blend mixture with hands or in a food processor until it forms a soft dough that does not stick to your hands. (Add more flour if needed.) Roll or pat dough 1/4 inch thick on a floured surface. Cut small (about 2 inches diameter) circles with a glass or cookie cutter. Place on oiled baking sheet. Cover with plastic wrap & freeze. When frozen, remove from baking sheet & store in freezer-proof container. Can be stored frozen for up to 6 weeks. When ready to bake, remove from freezer & let rise until doubled in size -- at least 4 hours. Then bake at 350 degrees Farenheit for 12 to 15 minutes. Remove & cool. Variation: Cut in wedges or rectangles instead of circles. NOTES: It was very hard to pry this recipe from my Mom, who bakes mostly by feel rather than exact measurements or method. Sometimes the result looks a little more like a tiny bun, other times a biscuit. However, it's always delicious. And the texture is heavenly, very tender & soft, not at all doughy. Yes, it's "white" so lacks the nutrients of whole grain breads but we don't eat it every morning. Usually just a few times a year as part of a Holiday brunch -- in this case Easter. 42/365 "sunshine slush" My favorite alcoholic beverage, hands down, is "Sunshine Slush". This stuff is seriously yummy for your tummy. My clone likes it, too. Fred’s Sunshine Slush: 3 cups water 1 cup sugar 2 ripe bananas 2 – 12oz cans unsweetened pineapple juice 1 – 6oz can frozen orange juice concentrate 2 tablespoons lemon juice 1 1/2 cups whiskey 7 up (for mixing) Boil water and sugar until dissolved, then boil additional 3 minutes. Let cool. Meanwhile, in blender, blend fruit juices and bananas until smooth. In a freezer proof plastic container, combine juice mixture, sugar water and whiskey. Cover and freeze. To drink, fill glass 1/3 to 1/2 way with slush and fill glass the rest of the way with 7-Up. Stir. Smile. For "Booze, Glorious Booze" and Roulette.
